Paul Pogba injury update: Huge Man Utd boost, comeback date touted

Losing a player of Paul Pogba’s quality would have been a significant blow for Man Utd, and so they’ll be desperate to see him return to action.

The French international has been sidelined since September 12 after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Champions League tie with Basel, and his absence in the Man Utd midfield has been felt as they have begun to stutter in recent outings in the Premier League.

To make matters worse, the 24-year-old was enjoying an impressive start to the campaign, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four league outings.

In turn, the timing of the injury would have been a really disappointing setback for both the player and Jose Mourinho, who will be keen to welcome him back into his first-team plans sooner rather than later.

According to The Daily Star, the Portuguese tactician may get his wish, as it’s claimed that Pogba could return for the clash with Chelsea next Sunday.

Having now returned to Carrington, as revealed by Jesse Lingard’s Instagram post this week, that would suggest that the Man Utd star is edging ever closer to a return but this weekend’s encounter with Tottenham may come too soon for him.

It’s noted in the report that Pogba didn’t train with the rest of the group on Thursday, but the game with Chelsea is specifically mentioned as a comeback target, as he said to be ‘in the frame to play some part’.

United will have to be careful though, as the last thing they need is for him to aggravate the issue and face a fresh spell on the sidelines.

On paper, their fixture schedule doesn’t look as difficult as it will be over the next week with those aforementioned meetings with Spurs and Chelsea, but heading into December when they take on Arsenal, Manchester City and the conclusion of the Champions League group stage, having Pogba in the side will be crucial.
