Here’s the answer on whether Manchester United will sign this £87m target, club president publicly addresses the interest

Manchester United have been told to forget about Antoine Griezmann by Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.

A report from the Mirror suggests that United’s rumored interest in triggering Griezmann’s £87m release clause has been batted away by Cerezo who expects the Frenchman to honor his current five-year contract in Spain.

Griezmann has scored just two goals in La Liga this season but is still regarded as one of the hottest talents in world football and as one of the most in-demand stars amongst Europe’s elite clubs.

Further, while Cerezo may be doing his best to bat away any approaches from other clubs for their prized possession it would appear that he is not completely confident himself that the French international will remain in Spain.

Earlier today a report from the Metro suggested that Atletico were eyeing up a move for Napoli’s Dries Mertens as a possible replacement for Griezmann if the star was to leave.

Mertens has been in incredible form of late and it is not a surprise that Atletico are interested in the Belgian attacker but the news does very much undermine the comments from the club president regarding Griezmann’s future.
