10 Barcelona players considered sellable as giants look to raise €150m

While it’s by no means a suggestion that all 10 could go, it’s reported that up to 10 Barcelona players in the current squad are ‘dispensable’.

The focus of the Marca report centres around squad players, as Ernesto Valverde undoubtedly has a group of core individuals who form a crucial part of his plans at the Nou Camp.

On one hand, he’ll need to retain plenty of depth to ensure that he can cover injuries and setbacks to continue to compete on various fronts, but Barcelona’s current financial situation means that they may also need to sell.

Barcelona to raise €50m through player sales

It’s claimed by Marca that the Catalan giants need raise a total of €150m next summer, of which €50m could come from player sales, as they look to balance their books and give themselves some cover when it comes to their wage bill.

In turn 10 names have been presented as possibly facing the axe in order to help deal with that situation at the end of the season, and all 10 are players who have struggled to make a major impact so far this season.

Jasper Cillessen, Rafinha, Arda Turan, Javier Mascherano, Paco Alcacer, Denis Suarez, Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Aleix Vidal and Thomas Vermaelen are the players in question, and as mentioned above, the common theme running through the list is that they’ve all struggled to establish themselves in the starting line-up.

Ernesto Valverde will want to be careful though in terms of who the club allows to leave, as ultimately the last thing that he wants is to be left short in certain departments which could hurt Barca next season.

However, based on his work so far this year which has led Barca to top spot in La Liga with a four-point buffer along with top spot in their Champions League group, Valverde is doing a stellar job using his trusted players, thus opening up the debate over who can be allowed to leave next summer.

Turan in particular seems an obvious choice if an offer arrives as he has yet to play a single minute this season, while Cillessen is firmly stuck behind Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the pecking order.

Mascherano and Vermaelen at 33 and 32 respectively need to be replaced sooner rather than later, while the rest all offer depth but it could be argued that Barcelona will be just fine without them based on this season as evidence.
