Borussia Dortmund want to bring Henrikh Mkhitaryan back to the Bundesliga less than two years after he departed the club for Manchester United.
Mkhitaryan has struggled recently under United boss Jose Mourinho and it now appears that he could be on the verge of leaving Old Trafford after a turbulent spell in Manchester.
A report from the BBC has stated that Mkhitaryan has attracted serious interest from his former club who have tweaked that the Armenian is growing unhappy at the lack of Mourinho’s patience with the Red Devils boss freezing him out of the squad on numerous occasions.
The 28-year-old arrived at Old Trafford last summer for a fee of £26.3m and was instantly frozen out of the squad by Mourinho before having to earn his spot in the United squad. (Fee per Sky Sports.)
Mkhitaryan was named on the bench today against Brighton and made a fleeting appearance in the second half but was previously left out of the two match day squads completely for the United games previously.
The treatment of Mkhitaryan is uncannily similar to that of his former Dortmund teammate Shinji Kagawa. Kagawa arrived at Old Trafford from Dortmund in in 2012 but retuned to the Bundesliga side just two years later after failing to impress David Moyes or Sir Alex Ferguson during his time under the two managers at Man United.
It appears that time is running out for Mkhitaryan and Dortmund are waiting with open arms to welcome their star back to Germany.
