Chelsea closing in on signing of Arsenal transfer target after months of trying

Chelsea are reportedly close to sealing the transfer of exciting young Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp ahead of rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

The 17-year-old is considered a huge talent in his native Germany and the Daily Mirror claim the Blues first tried to sign him during the summer transfer window.

At that point, Arp was reluctant to move to Stamford Bridge but the Mirror now state that Chelsea believe they’re close to sealing a deal for the youngster.

Chelsea don’t have the best track record in terms of promoting young players, but have made a relative success of a system of signing players before they’re big names and loaning them out to effectively put them in the shop window.

This has seen the west Londoners sell a number of unused players for a significant profit, though it has also come back to haunt them on more than one occasion.

Painfully for Chelsea, some of the best players in the Premier League this season are their former cast-offs, with Romelu Lukaku, Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne all shining for their major title rivals.

It remains to be seen if Arp would go down the same route or if he could genuinely be seen as a real star of the future at Chelsea.
