Arsenal reshuffle to continue, ex-Barcelona chief set to be appointed

Fresh from appointing Sven Mislintat as their head of recruitment earlier this month, Arsenal are reportedly set to continue with their hierarchy changes.

After years of the same infrastructure failing to bring desired results on the pitch in terms of ending the club’s wait for major trophies, it appears as though the Gunners are finally ringing the changes.

After Mislintat’s appointment was confirmed this month, The Daily Mail report that former Barcelona director Raul Sanllehi is now set to join him at the Emirates.

It will be with a view of an overhaul of the scouting and recruitment sector, which will be music to the ears of Arsenal supporters who will hope that the club can unearth some quality talents to put them on par with their rivals in the Premier League and around Europe.

Sanllehi is expected to fill the position left behind by Dick Law, as per the report, and given his failures in more recent times, most notably the inability to get Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to sign contract renewals, it remains to be seen whether or not the former Barca chief can have more success.

Both players will see their current deals expire at the end of the season, and so before any recruitment drive can begin, perhaps the initial focus will be on keeping players at the club who they feel will benefit Arsenal moving forward.

Meanwhile, it’s certainly a change for Wenger to have such figures in the hierarchy, and although the 68-year-old signed a new two-year contract in the summer, this is surely with a long-term plan for Arsenal in mind to move on from him in the future and have an infrastructure in place with splits responsibilities.
