Real Madrid ready to splash out £124million on Chelsea transfer target to replace El Clasico flop

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to launch a big transfer move for Inter Milan striker and rumoured Chelsea target Mauro Icardi to replace the struggling Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos are reeling after a 3-0 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona today, during which Benzema failed to make a decisive impact on the game.

The Frenchman has had a poor season overall, leading to speculation that he could be offloaded, with Arsenal interested, according to Don Balon.

Another report from Don Balon today claims Benzema had been warned he had to have a good game against Barca or the club would move to replace him upfront in the January transfer window.

The Spanish source suggests this could tempt Real to fork out the £124million required to sign Inter Milan hot-shot Icardi, who has been in prolific form this season.

The Sun have also linked Icardi as a potential Chelsea transfer target in recent times, but it may be that Real will now step up efforts to bring him in.

Today’s result will certainly have alarm bells ringing at the Bernabeu and Icardi looks the kind of player who could change the club’s fortunes in the second half of the campaign.
