Man Utd put £150,000-a-week offer on table to secure crucial bit of business

It has become apparent that Man Utd are keen for Marouane Fellaini to extend his stay at Old Trafford, and a new contract offer is on the table.

The 30-year-old hasn’t always convinced or been a universally popular figure at United since his switch from Everton in 2013, but he has established himself as an important part in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

After making 47 appearances in all competitions last season, he’s been hampered by injuries this term but such has been the discussion over his future in terms of speculation, it’s clear that the Belgian international is still wanted at United.

That’s arguably also down to the fact that should he leave, which is a real threat now given his current contract expires at the end of the season, Man Utd would be left very light in midfield.

Michael Carrick hasn’t been able to play this season, leaving Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera as the main options in that department. While those are three great options to have, for a club like United who are competing on various fronts, it isn’t enough.

According to The Express, United have now made a fresh play to get Fellaini to commit, putting a £150,000-a-week deal on the table. However, it’s added that he hasn’t shown a willingness to immediately put pen to paper on the deal which will be a major concern for the Red Devils.

It’s unclear as to why Fellaini wouldn’t jump at the chance to sign a new deal with Man Utd, given that it’s decent money, he will be an important player for Mourinho and will compete for major trophies every year.

There doesn’t seem to be too much of a reason to want to bring an end to his spell in Manchester, and so it remains to be seen whether or not an agreement can be struck in the coming months.
