£88m star releases statement amid Arsenal, Manchester City & Real Madrid transfer speculation

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has released a statement over his situation after returning to training with the Foxes yesterday following a failed January transfer.

While the Algeria international has come out slamming media reports over his absence, it has been widely claimed that the 26-year-old was out of action for Leicester in the wake of being denied a transfer to Manchester City.

The Daily Mirror claimed that Mahrez felt his club broke their promise over allowing him to leave as they rejected a £60million offer from City in January.

On top of that, the Times reported that Mahrez was only ready to end his stand-off with the Foxes if they gave him assurances he would finally be granted a transfer in the summer.

The Daily Star have since linked him as a potential target for Arsenal, while Real Madrid may also be in for the former PFA Player of the Year, though they’re not keen on Leicester’s supposed £88m asking price, according to Don Balon.

Mahrez is undoubtedly one of the finest talents in the Premier League and could improve most top sides, though the Daily Mirror have stated that City are ready to cool their interest in him after this latest episode with Leicester.

Still, Mahrez insists he has not behaved wrongly, saying Leicester were fully aware of why he was absent from training for the last week.

‘Leicester City were always aware of my whereabouts and had knowledge of my thinking either directly or via my advisors,’ he is quoted in the Leicester Mercury.

‘I have been a part of the Leicester City team that has achieved much success including promotion to the Premier League and being Champions of the League.

‘My goals have always been the same and I have always given my full 100 per cent when I play for the club the fans and my teammates.

‘Those goals remain the same today and in the future and when I am asked to be a part of the Leicester team, rest assured I will continue to give my all.

‘Over the past ten days many people claiming to be my friend have spoken about me and things they know nothing about.

‘Off the back of that many people and journalists have made assumptions without properly checking the story, so I would like to clarify that all those so-called assumptions of why I was absent are completely untrue.

‘Myself nor my advisors have ever made any statements about that so all presumptions made are totally without foundation.’
