Julen Lopetegui eager for Real Madrid to launch £70m Manchester United transfer raid

Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly still keen for his club to seal the transfer of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Manchester Evening News recently claimed De Gea had agreed on a new contract with United, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

It will be interesting to see if things could now change, with Don Balon reporting that Lopetegui would rather see Real sign De Gea than Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois.

The report suggests signing the Spain international would cost around £70million, but that seems well worth it for probably the finest shot-stopper on the planet.

De Gea has been a vital performer for United in recent years and keeping hold of him seems essential for the club this summer.

The prospect of a move back to his native Spain could be understandably tempting, however, especially given the respective success of the two clubs in the last few years.

While United haven’t really been contenders in the Premier League or Champions League, Madrid have enjoyed plenty of success, winning three Champions League titles in a row, one of those as part of a double with La Liga in 2016/17.
