Liverpool open talks for bargain transfer as attacker’s £40m asking price is slashed

Liverpool have reportedly been in contact with Aston Villa over a possible transfer swoop for attacking midfielder Jack Grealish.

The Daily Mirror reports that Tottenham continue to lead the chase for Grealish this summer as his asking price has been significantly cut from £40million to just £20m.

The report states Spurs are only prepared to pay £15m, so if Liverpool can come up with the right amount of money they should be in a strong position.

However, it remains to be seen how much Grealish will remain a specific priority for the Reds, who do seem to be in the market for a player of this type this summer.

The Liverpool Echo have previously noted how a move to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon fell through, so Grealish could be a fine alternative on the cheap.

The 22-year-old caught the eye in the Championship last season as Villa missed out on promotion, and has also shown he can do it at Premier League level in the past.

It would certainly be nice to see a young English talent like Grealish back in the top flight at a club like Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp known for working wonders with attacking players who haven’t all necessarily arrived at Anfield as the biggest names beforehand.
