Chelsea look set to make Daniele Rugani their first signing of the summer in a €40million transfer from Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with the Blues for some time now, with Premium Sport claiming his signing was requested by Maurizio Sarri, who is expected to replace Antonio Conte as manager at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans will be glad to see the club finally strengthen after a quiet summer in the transfer market so far, with the team surely in need of major surgery after last season’s disappointing 5th place finish.

Rugani could be an upgrade on under-performing centre-backs like David Luiz and Gary Cahill, both of whom look past their best with Chelsea.

While Rugani hasn’t always been an automatic starter for Juve, he looks a promising talent who could undoubtedly be first choice for most other top sides who don’t have as many quality defensive options as the Turin giants.
