“I think he’s going to stay” – David Luiz reveals chats with Chelsea star amid transfer speculation

Chelsea defender David Luiz says he’s spoken to Willian and thinks his fellow Brazilian is going to stay at the club this summer despite ongoing transfer speculation.

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked as a target for Barcelona in recent times, with the Daily Mail among the sources stating the Catalan giants have been in for him.

Luiz is optimistic, however, over the futures of Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois as well when quizzed over it by ITV Sport, saying it’s normal for transfer speculation every summer to suggest everyone’s on their way from one club to another.

“I think that the press sell the players every single year. They buy players, they sell players,” he said.

“I hope the trio can stay because they are fantastic players, fantastic talents and we need the best players in Chelsea.

Could Eden Hazard be another Chelsea star heading for the exit?

“I speak to Willian almost every day, he loves to play for Chelsea. I think he’s going to stay.”

Chelsea fans will certainly hope Luiz is right, with the prospect of losing so many key men in one go surely too much for the club to handle after their disappointing form last season saw them miss out on a Champions League place.

That will make keeping big names harder and luring replacements trickier as well, meaning new manager Maurizio Sarri would surely have a very hard time rebuilding this team after things went so badly downhill under Antonio Conte.
