Man Utd set to demand £70m for misfit as Jose Mourinho lines up £60m replacement

Man Utd will reportedly demand £70m for Anthony Martial this summer, while Ivan Perisic has been tipped to replace him at Old Trafford.

Despite his undeniable talent and his initial impact at United following his move from Monaco, things haven’t gone to plan for Martial since Jose Mourinho took charge.

Although the 22-year-old made 45 appearances last season, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists, he struggled to establish himself as a permanent fixture in the starting line-up and as noted by the Metro, there have been ongoing suggestions of issues with his relationship with Mourinho.

Further, that led to his failure to make the France squad for the World Cup this summer, and so it has certainly been a problematic period for the forward with fierce competition from the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku not helping either.

With that in mind and his likely desire to have a prominent role, it could lead to an exit from Man Utd, but The Mirror report that the French international is valued at £70m and so it remains to be seen whether or not any interested parties are willing to splash out such a hefty fee.

In addition, the report adds that £60m-rated Inter winger Ivan Perisic is Mourinho’s top choice to replace Martial, and given his creativity and eye for goal in the final third as well as his work ethic and tireless defensive work-rate, the Croatian winger is arguably the better fit for the Portuguese tactician.

Perisic, 29, enjoyed another productive campaign with Inter last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions. Further, he played an instrumental role in Croatia’s run to the World Cup final this summer, and it could potentially be more than enough to convince Mourinho and Man Utd to make a key change to their attacking options this summer.
