Despite winning the Champions League last season, it’s fair to say that Real Madrid’s defence looked very shaky at the best of times.
Los Blancos constantly struggled to keep clean sheets in La Liga, as they ended their campaign with 44 goals conceded, a total that was 15 higher than Barcelona’s and double Atletico Madrid’s.
Real definitely need to add to their options at the back this summer, and it looks as if they are aiming to do just that, as Don Balon are noting that they are keen on bringing in Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani to the Spanish capital this summer.
The report also notes that Chelsea are also in the race for the Italian, with the Sun stating that it’s going to take €50M (£45M) to pry Rugani away from Turin, a great price for a player of his potential and quality.
Despite having to compete with players such as Georgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Mehdi Benatia for the starting spots in the heart of Juve’s defence, Rugani has still managed to make his mark with the Old Lady these past few years.
The 24-year-old managed to make a total of 22 appearances in Serie A last season, as he helped the club win their seventh consecutive league title, a phenomenal achievement.
Rugani’s ability on the ball is impressive for a defender of his age, and his quality at the back is quite obviously second-to-none for anyone that has seen him play.
If Real are serious about Rugani, it’s definitely going to be interesting to see whether they can beat Chelsea in the race to snag a deal for the Italian this summer.
