Manchester United working to agree £40m transfer, plus fresh Anthony Martial twist

Manchester United have been given two key updates on their transfer activity before Thursday night’s deadline.

It has been a quiet and frustrating summer for the Red Devils, who have only made three signings in the form of Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, only one of whom is likely to be a regular in Jose Mourinho’s first XI.

However, there does appear to be some good news for United fans as Simon Stone has tweeted that it looks like, in a fresh twist, Anthony Martial is set to stay at Old Trafford.

The Daily Mirror recently claimed the France international could head to Chelsea as United pursued a deal for Willian, leading to a possible exchange of the two attackers.

However, the Chelsea man seemed to rule out a departure from Stamford Bridge yesterday in this video interview given after the Community Shield:

That then seems to put the end of any prospect of Martial moving to west London, and many fans will be delighted as the 22-year-old is something of a cult hero among a number of supporters.

On top of that, the Times report on United’s interest in Jerome Boateng as rumours have been circulating since last night.

The report states the Germany international is an option for the club at centre-back, though they hope to get his fee down to £40million from Bayern Munich’s £50m asking price.

It remains to be seen if Boateng, 29, is a priority target as HLN also strongly link Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld with United, even if the Times suggest he’s too expensive.
