Video: Alan Hutton scores superb solo goal for Aston Villa in win over Hull

After the heartbreak of last season and the turmoil over the summer, Aston Villa needed a positive start to the new Championship campaign on Monday night.

Steve Bruce’s side suffered defeat in the Championship playoff final last year, while off-the-pitch financial woes threatened to cause more misery for the club.

In turn, a win over Hull was exactly what was needed to start on the right foot, although an early goal from Evandro for the hosts suggested that they might not get it.

Fortunately for Villa, Tommy Elphick equalised minutes later before Ahmed El Mohamady put them in front after 70 minutes.

Just five minutes later, Alan Hutton stepped up and scored a wonderful solo goal, as seen in the video below, as after going on a mazy run past the Hull defence, he found a finish to nestle his effort into the back of the net before racing off to celebrate with the travelling supporters.

It’s just the start that Bruce would have wanted as Villa begin a fresh push to get back to the Premier League.
