West Ham’s timely slice of luck ahead of Europa Conference League semi-final

David Moyes is likely to be a happy man as his West Ham team prepare for their Europa Conference League semi-final first leg against AZ Alkmaar.

The Eredivisie side head to the London Stadium unbeaten in the last four games and having not conceded a goal, per WhoScored.

To that end, they could be a hard outfit to break down, however, they will be at a significant disadvantage, and that’s something that could benefit the hosts on Thursday night.

Moyes’ men are still unbeaten in the competition this season, having won all but one of their games. It’s a fabulous record and one they’re unlikely to want to give up easily, particularly after being beaten in the Europa League at this stage last season by Eintracht Frankfurt.

With a win over Manchester United almost guaranteeing their Premier League safety, emerging victorious in this competition will be a real boon for the club after a tough time domestically.

It would also guarantee them entry into next season’s Europa League which would be great news for the club commercially.

In any event, ahead of Thursday night’s game, it’s been reported by Claret and Hugh that AZ Alkmaar’s left-back, Milos Kerkez, has been ruled out of the first leg.

The Hungarian has been a mainstay of the team according to WhoScored, having played in 35 games this season.

With four goals and an assist to his name too, his industry down the left flank is likely to be a big miss for the visitors.
