Pundit slams managers clapping mistakes

talkSPORT pundit Andy Townsend has slammed the idea of managers clapping when players make a mistake, encouraging them to continue to do what led to the mistake in the first place.

Townsend seemed bemused at the idea of managers clapping their players and telling them to continue to do the same thing, saying “do the same again, give them another goal”.

This became the topic of discussion after Calvin Bassey for Fulham made two mistakes for the two goals Spurs scored whilst trying to play out from the back.

They compared this to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City who play out from the back and encourage players to continue to do so, however they also made the point that this is with a group of players that are amongst the best players in the world.

Calvin Bassey has made six appearances for Fulham in the 2023/24 campaign, totalling 298 minutes across those six games.

He also had a moment to forget against Arsenal, where he received two yellow cards and was sent off in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates.
