Eddie Howe adds former player to Newcastle’s summer shortlist

Newcastle United have reportedly included Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly on their summer transfer shortlist.

That’s according to a recent report from the Daily Mail, who claims the Magpies are keen to pursue the soon-to-be free agent.

Interest in Kelly, 25, is not exclusive to England though. The Bristol-born full-back is also heavily linked with a high-profile switch to Serie A giants AC Milan (Football Insider).

However, Eddie Howe could hold the advantage after already working with the 25-year-old during his days as Bournemouth manager, and the Magpies, given their need to remain within Financial Fair Play’s strict margins, could be forced to target players out of contract this summer.

Regardless of what the Geordies decide to do in the summer, with Kelly reportedly rejecting multiple contract renewal offers from the Cherries, it seems the end of the season will be the time the versatile defender moves on in search of a new challenge.

During his five years at the Vitality Stadium, Kelly, who has represented England at under-20 and under-21 levels, has scored three goals and registered seven assists in 131 games in all competitions.
