Liverpool and Chelsea competing for potential €50-60million attacker transfer

Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in the potential transfer of PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, who could move for a fee of around €50-60million this summer.

Bakayoko has shone in the Eredivisie and previously attracted interest from Brentford, according to journalist Patrick Berger.

Now, however, it looks like it will be bigger clubs trying to win the race for Bakayoko’s signature, with Berger providing an update below via X (formerly Twitter), linking the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain with the talented young Belgium international…

Bakayoko looks like a player with a big future in the game, and it would be interesting to see him in the Premier League for what looks like being some important years ahead of him in his development.

The 20-year-old looks like he could have an impact for both Liverpool and Chelsea right now, with both clubs in need of attacking reinforcements.

Bakayoko could be an upgrade on Chelsea’s struggling wide-forwards like Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, and he’d fit the bill for the Blues’ current ownership, who have prioritised signing the best young players in world football with a view to a more long-term strategy than we usually saw under previous owner Roman Abramovich.

Liverpool, meanwhile, could also do well to bring in Bakayoko as Cody Gakpo hasn’t been entirely convincing since joining the club just over a year ago, while Diogo Jota has been rather injury prone, and Mohamed Salah isn’t exactly getting any younger.

One imagines a move to LFC would hinge on who becomes the new manager, with Jurgen Klopp recently announcing that he’d be stepping down at the end of this season, though the Reds would also surely be more appealing than Chelsea at the moment given the recent trajectory of both clubs.
