Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano confirms clubs are monitoring wonderkid amid Liverpool transfer links

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there has been interest in PSV winger Johan Bakayoko from Premier League clubs amid recent links with Liverpool.

The highly-rated young Belgium international looks like a hugely exciting prospect at the moment, and it seems only a matter of time before he swaps the Eredivisie for a more competitive league.

Still, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear he’s not aware of anything concrete with Liverpool for the moment, even if English clubs have long been monitoring Bakayoko.

The Reds could perhaps do with strengthening their attack in the near future as Mohamed Salah isn’t getting any younger, while Cody Gakpo has been a little inconsistent and Diogo Jota has struggled with injuries.

It remains to be seen, however, if Bakayoko will end up being a player the Merseyside giants make a priority any time soon, or if he could perhaps end up elsewhere in the Premier League.

Bakayoko transfer: Fabrizio Romano responds to Liverpool links

“I’m aware there have been some stories about Liverpool targeting talented young PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, but there is nothing concrete happening yet, nothing serious, with the Belgium international 100% focused on PSV,” Romano said in today’s column.

“Still, it’s true that many clubs have been monitoring Bakayoko since last summer. Scouts from English top clubs are always travelling to follow him, but it’s nothing more concrete than that for now, and at the end of the season we will likely see Bakayoko assessing his options.”

LFC fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on this, but it probably isn’t time to get excited just yet, as there will surely be plenty of competition for Bakayoko’s signature, even if they do decide to pursue him in the weeks and months ahead.
