Darwin Nunez is expected to be fit enough to play against Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of the month.

The South American striker, who played all 120 minutes against Manchester United during last weekend’s incredible FA Cup quarter-final, appeared to suffer a slight injury to his hamstring.

The striker, although called up by Marcelo Bielsa to represent Uruguay during the current international break, was forced to withdraw from the squad after continuing to experience ‘discomfort’ in his leg.

And the Reds, who are embroiled in a tense three-way title race with Manchester City and Arsenal, have been handed a significant boost ahead of their next Premier League game on 31 March.

Liverpool’s medical staff are believed to be ‘confident’ their number nine will be ‘in contention’ to be selected by Jurgen Klopp for their game against Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls.

Nunez’s impending availability will undoubtedly delight Klopp, who will know his side could return to the top of the table with a win given that Manchester City host leaders Arsenal in the day’s later game.

Darwin Nunez hoping to end Brighton goal drought

Although the Urguyay international is enjoying an excellent individual campaign, he doesn’t have the best record against Brighton.

The forward has yet to score against the Seagulls with his only contribution being an assist when the two sides met back in August last year.

Klopp and the rest of Liverpool’s fanbase will be hoping the flamboyant striker can improve his individual record when De Zerbi’s eighth-placed Seagulls arrive at Anfield on Easter Sunday.
