Jack Grealish jumps to defence of ‘disrespected’ Man City teammate

Jack Grealish has named fellow Manchester City star Erling Haaland as his hardest-working teammate and believes he doesn’t get the respect he deserves.

Haaland set an incredible standard in his debut season with Man City, scoring 52 goals across all competitions to help Pep Guardiola’s men win the treble. That included a competition record 36 goals in 35 Premier League appearances to take the Golden Boot, Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards.

Although things slowed down a little this season, Haaland was still able to net 38 times across all competitions, with his 27 Premier League goals enough for another Golden Boot and helping City win a fourth consecutive title.

Grealish defends ‘unbelievable’ Haaland

Haaland’s strong return hasn’t stopped critics from taking aim at the Norway international, especially for his lack of involvement in Man City’s build-up play and failure to score across two legs in their Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid.

Grealish has jumped to the defence of his teammate and his unique mindset.

“I’ve said so many times before he’s just unbelievable man, he’s just a killer,” Grealish told talkSPORT. “This season he’s scored 27 goals in the league. It’s a bit disrespected, it’s as if it’s not good.

“He’s unbelievable, he’s there every time the ball is in the box. I can’t speak highly enough of him. I get on really well with him, he’s a brilliant guy, so good to have around the place.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone have his work ethic. The things he does on a day-to-day basis whether it’s to help his sleep or his recovery… I’ve never seen anything like it.

“To me, it shows why he’s so successful.”

Man City have the chance to seal the double when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Despite only playing twice in the competition this season, Haaland needs just two more goals to become this season’s top scorer thanks to his five-goal showing against Luton in round five.
