Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has reportedly taken a step closer to joining AEK Athens on an initial loan, with the option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of £20million.

That’s according to Miguel Delaney of the Independent, posting from his official account on X, formerly Twitter, as he reports on the Blues looking closer to finally offloading Datro Fofana after plenty of speculation over the summer.

See below for the latest details on the 21-year-old’s future as Delaney says he’s agreed terms with the Greek giants in a deal that seems to quite clearly pave the way for a permanent exit from Stamford Bridge…

Datro Fofana has struggled to make an impact in his time at Chelsea so far, having made only four appearances for the west London club in total, and going out on loan to both Union Berlin and Burnley.

Both of those loan spells ended up being pretty underwhelming for the Ivory Coast international, though he was considered a big prospect during his time at former club Molde, so it will be interesting to see if he can now revive his career.

Chelsea have plenty of squad depth at the moment, so it’s perhaps not too surprising that Datro Fofana couldn’t find many opportunities to show what he can do for the Blues.

CFC fans probably won’t be too concerned about this departure, however, as it should help make room for the signing of a better striker once the transfer window opens again in January.
