Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano responds to rumoured Liverpool transfer target liking his Instagram post

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has responded to Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho seeming to hint at an interest in joining Liverpool after recently liking an Instagram post by the journalist about Arne Slot becoming the next Reds manager.

However, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear he doesn’t read too much into social media activity and transfer hints, so it seems there’s nothing necessarily going on here in terms of Pacho keeping an eye on the situation at Liverpool.

The talented young defender looks like a fine option for LFC and other top sides, having been linked with Arsenal as well, but for now it seems there’s nothing more to report on the prospect of him moving to Anfield.

Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a centre-back this summer, though, according to Romano, even if specific targets have not been decided yet, so won’t necessarily include Pacho.

“Also on Liverpool – I wanted to clarify something on Willian Pacho as some fans noticed he liked my Instagram post about Arne Slot,” Romano said.

“I honestly wouldn’t judge social media activity like this when discussing transfers. Liverpool want to sign an important centre-back this summer, but the top target has not been decided yet and the manager will also be involved in the discussion.”

Pacho looks like the kind of player who could strengthen Liverpool, but there are also likely to be numerous other options who could do a good job, with a long-term replacement for ageing players like Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip surely needed at Anfield.

It’s not been the best end to the season for Liverpool, so getting key decisions right this summer looks important to improve their defensive record as they’ve allowed in eight more goals than current league leaders Arsenal.
