Arsenal want £10m Euro 2008 star: Would be a handy signing

Arsene Wenger continues his Euro 2008 window-shopping and spots a top quality defender and is now just haggling over the price….

Arsene Wenger is trying to set up a bargain £5million deal for Spain defender Raul Albiol.
The Arsenal boss wants to sign the versatile 22-year-old and is hoping to take advantage of the cash crisis at Valencia by brokering a cut-price transfer.
Valencia, who only narrowly avoided the drop last season, are having to hold a fire sale with Spain stars David Villa, David Silva and Albiol all up for grabs.
Wenger tracked Albiol for months and likes his versatility because he can play at centre-half and as a holding midfielder.
But the Frenchman has made it clear he will not meet Valencia’s £10m asking price. (Daily Mirror)

So, with any luck, Valencia’s lack of cash will lead to Arsenal picking up a good quality youngster to add to his plethora of talent. Wenger could do with a couple of defensive signings to help cover for injuries and loss of form. The fact that Albiol also doubles up as a defensive midfielder is a bonus, given the departure of the Flamster and potentially Gilberto Silva could also be on this way out.

Should Wenger stump up the cash? Do Arsenal fans want to see their club competing with the big boys financially by paying 10m+ for additions to their playing staff?
