Liverpool find ‘ideal’ £12m partner for Torres: Will he join?

Euro 2008 is turning into a transfer speculation-fest and here is the latest striker linked with a move to Anfield…

Liverpool are monitoring Croatia’s striker Ivica Olic.
German sources say manager Rafa Benitez sees Hamburg’s Olic as the ideal foil for Fernando Torres.
“All this is not currently an issue for me,” he told Mopo when asked about interest from Italy, England and Spain.
“I want to, and must have, my mind on the European Championship – for Croatia!
“Once I’m back home, I will quickly get together with HSV.
“I think I’ll play next year for Hamburg. And even longer. But so much is possible in football.” (Daily Mail)

Hamburg are looking to restart contract negotiations with the 28 year old when he returns from the finals, but the birth of a new baby could play some part in the thinking regarding his future.
The Croat forward is however quoted by Spox as saying: “To play with a great club in England is a dream for me.” (goal.com)

28-year-old attacker Olic has been a big hit in the Bundesliga, where he finished as top scorer at SV, helping them to a top-four finish last term. Comments attributed to the £12m-rated Croat seem to be contradictory and just serve to illustrate how it is very hard to believe anything you read. He is the type of player that would work well off El Nino, but whether this deal will happen is anyone’s guess, maybe Rafa would be looking for a higher profile signing instead.

Having already declared David Villa is not a target, Benitez will no doubt have a few names that he wishes to splash the cash on do Liverpool fans think that Olic would be a name he should consider bidding for?
