Arsenal in SURPRISE £2m bid: A star who can still do a good job!
by Mr Comfort on July 13th, 2008This Gunners midfielder was all set to leave the Premier League but now Everton have decided that the asking price for this World Cup winner is too good to pass up!
Everton boss David Moyes is making a lastditch bid to sign Arsenal’s former Brazilian skipper Gilberto Silva - before he joins Greek giants Panathinaikos.
Moyes, on the club’s tour in Switzerland, stepped into the race after the Gunners agreed a fee of under £2million for the experienced midfielder.
Gilberto’s agents have been in Athens to tie up personal terms but Moyes contacted them and Arsenal in a frantic attempt to win the transfer chase.
Moyes, who has been frustrated in his transfer moves so far this summer, thinks Gilberto would be a perfect replacement for Lee Carsley.
Gilberto is now aware of Everton’s interest and will have to choose between a move to Merseyside or uprooting to Greece.
Henk Ten Cate’s Panathinaikos team have a big advantage - they can offer Champions League football. (SundayPeople)
Whilst it’s true that on occasions last season 31 year old Gilberto looked a little off the pace, this was more down to lack of first team action than any lack of ability. Given a decent run he can surely do a great job in the Premier League. David Moyes can clearly see the value in attempting to sign the Brazilian and whilst it’s true that with the Greek side he has a shot at the Champions League (albeit after two testing qualifying rounds) Silva will surely not pass up the chance to stay in England. Do Everton fans think that Moyes can clinch this signing? And do Arsenal supporters think that their former captain still has something in the tank?

Gilberto has been a loyal servant for years now - he never complains when not playing and always gave his all. he was more than willing to step into centre back on occasion too!! If Wenger feels he is surplus to requirements and cant give him 1st team football it is only fair to let him leave at a low price - that way he negotiate a good wage for a couple of years more before retirement!!
Good Luck to him wherever he ends up - perhaps Adebayor and Hleb could learn a thing or two from this gentleman!!
Im sure he will get a rousing reception whoever he returns to the Emirates with!!

I’d prefer to see him go foreign i like him too much to see him play against us at least twice a year. Anyone see Nasri in red and white well worth the wait.

I think wenger should let him go to Everton even for a lower price as a token of appreciation for the Loyal Service he has given us. He has never said nething that was against us.
Thank you Mr. Gilberto ” Arsenal in my veins” Silva you have the best of times ahead.

One of the true professionals in the Prem! A loyal servant to Arsenal. Thank you Gilberto, you were awesome. Wenger should allow him to go (ONLY IF HE WANTS TO) to any club he desires.

Gilberto Silva still can offer a lot for us. I think he should be playing in our first team as a defending midfielder. He still can play at the highest level for another 2 years as new & young players can learn a lot from him, especially about loyalty.
Cheers

He’s not an Everton type of player. He can actually play rather than just kick the crap out of people and hoof it forward for Andy Johnson. He’s better off going to the Bubbles.
