Newcastle United are desperate for players!
by Dexter on July 17th, 2008 The Independent reckons that Newcastle United have missed out in their quest for Pablo Aimar’s signature.
Aimar would have been a classic Keegan signing, but alas he looks set to sign on the dotted line for Benfica, leaving the good ship Toon more of a ghost ship with a very bare squad.
Aimar, the 28-year-old Argentinian playmaker, was also a Keegan target but he is set to be unveiled as a Benfica player within the next 48 hours after Zaragoza announced last night that they had reached an accord with the Lisbon club. The fee is £7m.
As the Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper said yesterday: “We’re pretty depleted. We’ve lost four or five players and the dressing room is pretty sparse. New faces would give everyone a lift.” (Independent)
When King Kev first returned to Newcastle, many journo’s were busy sharpening their knives and painting him to be utterly incompetent. One vicious rumour asserted that the Toon boss only picked famous players as transfer targets - because that’s all he knows. When is Keegan going to prove the doubters wrong?

To say that he only picks famous players is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. Who had heard of ginola, rob lee, albert to name a few before he signed them.
jeremy - July 17th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
danny guthrie and guttierrez are really famous players aye? dont think so. keegan picks players who he thinks can do a job for the club and is not just after the big money contracts.
We arent desperate for players, the transfer window is only about 2 weeks old, and we have signed 2 players. A lot of other clubs havent signed more than us, so NO, we arent desperate for players. Theres still plenty of time left for transfers so when we are in the last 2 days of the transfer market, and still havent signed anyone else, then repost this article at that time… till then, stop writing crap.

Really think the toon are going to struggle this year, seems we have no longer very much appeal within the transfer market, club needs a shake up real badly, got the potential but we have had since the year dot but still consistantly underachieve, not the players or the fans fault at all but there is deffo some dodgy shit going on upstairs at St. James, return of KK put us back not forward. Even teams like boro are making quality signings, still surprised we finished above them to be honest, we need to strike out and come forward as a club in force this season, would not be surprised to see the smoggies and the mackams finish above us the state we are in. Keep chins up eh, see what magic can happen

del67 i have never heard of a bigger pile, keegan a step back??????
He is the best manager we have had at the club since………….oh the last time he was here. Why doesnt everyone in the country (and world for that matter) realise that newcastle arent like your other teams, the lads play to the best of their ability and the lads that dont are dealt with ( more so with King Kev). We dont have big named players like your ronaldos and so on who get a sniff of cash and go elsewhere, Our biggest player for years (Shearer, GOD!!!) had the chance to go to the red manc scum (f****** hate the money grabbing, scottish, loving, plane crashing, indian slave shirt making T**ts) but he decided to come to us cos he loves the toon ( god i miss him in black and white ) .
On to transfer - No we are not struggling, as jeremy said we have made 2 decent signing and there is loads of time left, knowing the new tactics at the toon there is probably 2 or 3 players just about to walk into newcastle that the stinking, lying, false story grabbing, career destroying press have not even got there sly mits on yet.
Well this is my take of it, Toon for top 8 this season.
God bless all Newcastle fans and S**T on the mackems, everybody alse doesnt matter your all S**T.
