Manchester United are scrambling hard to find a fantastic goalkeeper as a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar. Could this Spanish sensation be the one?

Manchester United are keeping watch on Spain Under 21 goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

It is understood that the Barclays Premier League champions have watched the 19-year-old Valladolid goalkeeper six times already this season as manager Sir Alex Ferguson looks for a long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar.

United scouts have run the rule over Asenjo in internationals against Switzerland and La Liga games against Athletic Bilbao and Valencia. (Daily Mail)

Edwin has made it clear in recent months that this could be his last season at the club. With retirement calling his name, United find themselves looking for a keeper for the future. Asenjo has been lights-out for the Spain’s Under 21, and could be the kind of keeper they need to continue without losing a beat. Could he be of the same quality as Liverpool’s Pepe Reina? United surely hope so!
