‘Sparky is the man to lead Manchester City forward’ claims defender: Do you agree?
by stresster on October 23rd, 2008The Abu Dhabi United Group mean business at Eastlands, and seem determined that nothing will stop them from making Manchester City into one of Europe’s leading teams. That was not really in evidence at St James’ Park on Monday night, when the visitors struggled to break down an ordinary ten-man Newcastle side after leading the game 1-0.
This performance has put a little pressure on manager Mark Hughes to start delivering the goods, with the team not exactly having a great run at the moment. Indeed, with the former Wales and Blackburn manager being brought in before the new owners took over, it’s still unclear as to whether he has their backing. Setanta reports that he at least has the support of one of the best players at the club, with Micah Richards claiming Sparky should be manager for the long-term.
“Mark Hughes is a great manager,” he told setantasports.com.
“I think he has brought a lot to the club. He is very ambitious and has big plans for us.
“I think he is definitely the man to take us forward.”
One thing’s for sure, Hughes will be demanding an improvement against Stoke on Sunday after such a dismal showing on Monday. The owners expect the team to feature near the top of the Premier League this season, with a view to challenging the ‘Big Four’ next term. Do Manchester City supporters think that they have the right man in charge, or is it too early to tell?

I think Hughes has bought an extra edge to the club lacking with Sven, but I’m not sure if the board won’t fancy Mourinho after his comments today about the Premier League. The jury is out as to whether he is the man to bring the success we’re now after, however before the takeover I was very happy so he has my backing!! I think once he has had another chance in January to bring in more players then we’ll be a much tougher side to beat, and we’ll also have enough options that Hughes won’t have to make decisions like putting Fernandes at right back against Liverpool. If there is a 10 year plan from the new owners (I imagine they hope things will happen a little quicker) then I think Hughes can be given at least another 2 years to prove he is the man to deliver success.

No, sack him. Sack the board. Buy Kaka. Bring in Capello.
8 league games, 5 since the takeover and already we’re having to listen to this rubbish.

I think the best man moving us forward is Mr Eriksson again .. OR possibly other latin coach as Capello, Morinio / other top class Italian coach. Why?
Defense and thoughtful tactics to take points … instead of the Blackburn style of big guys with not so much talent …. Sparky isnt the guy moving us forward ……trust me.

I’ll go with Mark Hughes. He is learning too, as are the team. He seems to have some preconceived ideas though. For example, we hardly missed Distin last season, because Nedum Onouha is such a talented player. Yet Hughes resolutely refused to play him until forced to. Same with Berti - we haven’t seen the guy yet, but he’s playing good stuff for the reserves, and god knows, we need a left back.
Don’t think MH has yet got a handle on exactly what he’s got available. Letting Geo go could well win us the Cup for Cockups this season. Just hope he gets to grips quickly and starts changing things around during matches if things aren’t going right. He was good at that at Blackburn….
