Liverpool manager fuming over on-going contract talks: Will ownership get this resolved in time?

Liverpool’s strong start to the season is on the verge of being put to the back burner once again as contract talks continue to take away from the play on the pitch. Rafa Benitez would like to see these two players signed and sealed before they walk away from the club. I’m sure Liverpool supporters would agree!

Benitez revealed that negotiations over a new contract with Danish central defender Daniel Agger are at an advanced stage, but is concerned that there has been little progress with Kuyt.

”Agger is very close and he is talking with the club,” Benitez said. ”There is no news yet with Kuyt but he is another player that I would like to get done as soon as possible. They have to be done before the new year.

”In each team you need people with quality, that work hard and with a good character. I want to do it as soon as possible because it is better for them and better for the club.”

Many will interpret Benitez’s frustration over a lack of progress with Kuyt as a slight against the Anfield hierarchy with whom he has a fractious relationship. (ESPNSoccernet)

Agger is a must for the future of the club. Whilst he hasn’t been getting consistent minutes, he does provide a safety for Benitez in the event Skrtel goes down. He won’t be on the bench forever; Rafa just needs to figure out the best way to utilize his skills on the pitch.

Kuyt, on the other hand, is a different story. Most can remember how his poor play last season almost made him a casualty over the summer. Instead of dropping the Dutchman, Benitez trusted his gut and made Kuyt a centerpiece of the new squad. He’s since repaid Benitez in spades. Now Kuyt looks like a must-have for Liverpool. But with his deal sagging at the moment, one has to wonder if the club will be able to land him in time.

Are Liverpool supporters nervous about Agger or Kuyt’s contracts?
