Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed reports suggesting that young midfielder Raheem Sterling could be set out on loan according to Sky Sports.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested that Sterling would be offered to Championship sides in an attempt to give the player greater experience of first team football.

Sterling has had an impressive debut season, making regular appearances in the Liverpool starting eleven last year but has found himself sitting on the bench in recent games following England international Stewart Downing’s return to form.

It had been suggested that Rodgers would send Sterling on loan to a Championship side to give the player some match time until the end of the season.

The likes of Cardiff City, Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool were all touted as potential destinations for the youngster.

But Rodgers has poured cold water on the speculation insisting he still considers Sterling as an integral part of his match day squad.

Liverpool are currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League after a recent spell of good form.

They are now just seven points off a Champions League spot and optimistic voices from within the club have suggested a late surge could see them net a top-four finish.
