Chelsea are set to offer their young Belgian international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois a new deal to stay at the club, The Express reports.

The 20-year-old arrived in West London from Belgian side Genk in 2011 but has spent the past two seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid as the club still don’t see him taking over the reins from Petr Cech just yet.

He had been seen as a potential makeweight in the deal that would see Radamel Falcao move in the opposite direction, however, Chelsea feel that he still has a future with them and want to secure his future until 2018.

With Chelsea still backing Cech, there are question marks over where Curtois will go. The obvious answer is that he’ll stay with the Madrid giants again for another year, a solution that the player would be happy with.

Courtois has enjoyed his time with the La Liga giants so far, becoming the undisputed number one during his two year spell there. Last season he was a part of the squad that won the Europa League and the European Super Cup.

He has made 92 appearances for Atletico so far, with 40 c0ming this season. He has also managed to displace Simon Mignolet from the Belgian national set up and looks likely to be their first choice ‘keeper if and when the qualify for next year’s World Cup.
