Portuguese source Record has stated today that Tottenham have launched a €30m (£25.5m) bid for in-form Colombian international Jackson Martinez.

Andre Villas-Boas could well do with additional striking options and given the links that exist between the White Hart Lane boss and his former Estadio Dragao employers there is perhaps a chance the Tottenham manager could lure the 26 year old to North London.

The offer is said to be some €10m short of Martinez’s release clause but could be an attempt to display to the powerful forward that they are keen on acquiring his services.

Martinez is tied down to a long term contract that runs until 2016 so it could prove tough to persuade the Primeira Liga champions to sell.

Jackson Martinez had a fine first season in Portugal, scoring 34 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

A lack of goals from the club’s forwards could well have cost Tottenham dear in their pursuit of a Champions League berth, indeed but for Gareth Bale’s heroics such a push may well have not even have got going.

Jermain Defoe started the season well but went well and truly off the boil, scoring just one goal in his last 15 Premier League appearances. Indeed Emmanuel Adebayor fared even worse, scoring just five goals in 25 top tier matches.
