Arsenal have opened talks with QPR about signing Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar, Goal.com reports.

The Gunners are prepared to pay a £1 million up front fee for Cesar, who they see as their number one shot stopper for next season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants an experienced man in goal for the coming season as the Gunners attempt to win some silverware for the first time since 2005.

Arsenal had enquired about the availability of Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic but decided not to pay the £13 million asking price.

The Gunners were also interested in Liverpool’s Pepe Reina in January but their interest has waned as Reina is known to want to move to Barcelona.

So that means Cesar looks set to compete with Worjciech Szczensy at Emirates for the goalkeeping jersey.

The Brazilian goalkeeper had a strong first season in the Premier League but despite that QPR were relegated so it was always likely that goalkeeper would look to find another club in the summer.

Arsenal also look set sign Swansea City’ defender Ashley Williams.

The Gunners have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Welsh defender but are still negotiating a fee with Swansea.
