Arsenal are moving ever nearer to the signing of Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain according to the London Evening Standard.
The 25 year old Argentine is said to have agreed a contract offer worth in the region of £125k a week and the player’s own father, who also acts as Higuain’s agent, has stated that a deal is in the advanced stages and that a move could be announced imminently.
Arsene Wenger has been targeting the signing of an established striker this summer and having seemingly given up the chase for Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic it seems that Bernabeu ace Higuain is almost in the bag.
It appears that one aspect of the deal that was holding up it’s completion may now have been overcome as Real Madrid are set to officially unveil Italian Carlo Ancelotti as the replacement to Jose Mourinho, after the former Chelsea and AC Milan boss left PSG en route to filling the vacant managerial post at the La Liga giants.
Higuain is a proven goal-scorer who despite playing something of a bit-part role at Real Madrid in recent seasons has still managed to rack up 122 goals for the Spanish side.
Such a signing may well leave Olivier Giroud wondering if he will retain his spot as a regular in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.
