Hamburg To Make Offer For Arsenal Defender

Bundesliga offer for Gunners flop.Arsenal defender Johan Djourou could be handed a lifeline this summer by Bundesliga side Hamburg, according to the Daily Express.

The Swiss centre-back has been with the Gunners since 2002, when he joined their youth setup, and was widely tipped to be a first-team regular as one of the club’s most exciting young players.

However, despite Djourou’s rise to the first team, he has never truly established himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger’s starting lineup, making just over 140 appearances for the club in nine years with the club.

He has spent time out on loan at Birmingham City, and was also loaned out to Bundesliga side Hannover for the second half of the 2012/13 season, where his performances have attracted attention from other German teams, most notably Hamburg, who could make Arsenal an offer this summer.

Djourou is likely to be one of many squad players offloaded by Arsenal this summer, as they seek to get rid of the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh, having already released the likes of Andrey Arshavin, Sebastien Squillaci and Denilson.

Arsenal are also looking to bring in a new defender, and have been linked with the likes of Swansea’s Ashley Williams and Valencia’s Adil Rami to challenge Thomas Vermaelen’s starting place.
