Liverpool’s summer of spending is not over yet, as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to continue strengthening his side with the signing of Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia.

The Dutch international, formerly of Juventus and Hamburg, has been linked with Liverpool before, and according to talkSPORT, is seen as the club’s solution to their problems on the flanks.

Elia has not been in the best of form over the last couple of seasons, having flopped spectacularly in his time in Serie A with Juventus, and only managing three assists and no goals for Bremen in 2012/13.

Liverpool have been linked with other wingers this summer, and may still move for the likes of Scott Sinclair and Tom Ince, though Elia is likely to be cheaper at around £5million, and although he has not been at his best in recent years, he will still be seen as an improvement on Stewart Downing, who has been a major disappointment at Anfield since his £20million move from Aston Villa in 2011.

Elia could become the club’s fourth major signing of the summer, joining Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas the club’s new arrivals so far, with Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet expected to follow.
