Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has confirmed that star striker Alvaro Negredo is likely to leave the club this summer after telling him that he wants to go, Sky Sports reports.

The 27-year-old had been a target for both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham, with the latter even having a £14.5 million bid rejected before they tied up the Andy Carroll, however, the Spanish international is now most likely going to join La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Del Nido had insisted that the club are in no rush to sell following Jesus Navas’ recent departure to Manchester City, but Negredo is keen to test himself in the Champions League and Atletico are thought to be keen on bringing him on board as a replacement for Radamel Falcao who left to join French side Monaco last month.

Clubs from abroad are also said to be keeping an eye on his situation, though, as he prepares to weigh up his options.

“He has said he wants to develop and that he wants to play in the Champions League,” Del Nido told Sevilla’s television channel.

“One of the teams is Atletico Madrid and the other is outside of Spain.”
