Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would fit in well at the Nou Camp according to Goal.com.

Rooney has been the subject of intense speculation surrounding his future since the end of last season when manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the England striker had handed in a transfer request.

Ferguson has now retired and been replaced by David Moyes, who wants to keep Rooney at Old Trafford and is set to hold more talks with the striker this week.

However, Pique thinks that if Rooney were to leave Old Trafford this summer, he would be welcomed at Barcelona.

“I know he has what’s needed to be one of the three best players in the world. He’d fit well with Barcelona,” Pique told Sport.

“He can adapt to many positions. He’s best as the centre-forward, but we have seen him on the left or right side.

“He is very versatile, strong, fast and has great technique. I don’t think he would have any problems adapting.”

Barcelona are one of a number of teams that are monitoring the situation involving Rooney, with Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG and AS Monaco joining the Spanish champions on the list of possible destinations for the striker.

However, Rooney would prefer to stay at Old Trafford according to reports and could sign a new contract with the club if the talks with Moyes go well.
