Napoli will make a move for Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko if Edinson Cavani leaves the club this summer, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Italian club are determined to keep hold of Cavani and will not sell the Uruguay international for less than £53 million but manager Rafa Benitez is making contingency plans in case the striker demands to leave Napoli.

Dzeko would be Benitez first choice if he does lose Cavani and could tempt the Bosnian to Italy with the promise of first team football.

The striker has struggled to start many games for Manchester City despite impressing when he does come on as substitute but new manager Manuel Pellegrini is willing to give Dzeko a chance to show him what he can do when he starts.

Pellegrini is left with only two first team strikers at City after Carlos Tevez left the Etihad for Juventus and would like to keep Dzeko at the club for the time being.

However, if Napoli were to bid £20 million for the Bosnian, Pellegrini might just change his mind.

City are looking at bolstering their attacking options this summer and are interested in Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo as well as Brazilian international Fred.
