Arsenal have told Roma they need to step up their bid if they want to stand any chance of signing Ivorian forward Gervinho this summer according to the Daily Mail.

It is thought Roma are accepting that Pablo Osvaldo will not be with the Serie A side to begin their next campaign as Fulham and Manchester City both eye the Italian striker.

Roma offered the Premier League club £6.8million for the 26 year-old which was thought to be enough to tempt Wenger’s hand, but now latest reports claim the Gunners are demanding at least £8.6million for the former Lille star.

Osvaldo may be used as bait in the Gervinho move, with a potential swap deal on the cards due to Arsene Wenger desperately looking to add to his attacking options this summer.

It is also reported that the Gunners are desperate to sell Ivory Coast international, Gervinho, due to their clear interest in Brazilian wonderkid Bernard. Wenger wishes to wrap up a £21million move for the attacking midfielder but the move is currently stalled – despite L’Equipe claimed the player was due to undergo a medical tomorrow.

Bernard’s agent dropped a massive hint on twitter, tweeting : “Congratulations, Bernard. Double-winner! Confederations Cup, Libertadores… the perfect farewell.”

But following the victory, Bernard told reporters, “I do not know what will happen to me from tomorrow. If I stay or not, I have made it clear that I wanted to leave here with a big title, so I have fulfilled my goal, which I promised to fulfil.”
