Arsenal have received a huge blow after it was confirmed that long-term target Luiz Gustavo has officially completed his move from Bayern Munich to fellow Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, according to exclusive reports in the BBC.

The north London club have so far endured a tough summer in the transfer market, having missed out on the likes of Real Madrid front man Gonzalo Higuain, who joined Napoli for £34.5 million instead of moving to the Emirates, while head coach Arsene Wenger is still attempting to persuade Liverpool to sell him controversial striker Luis Suarez before the window shuts on Sept 2.

However, despite that it had still been expected that the Gunners would be able to tie up a deal for Bayern’s Brazil international, who had been made available to buy by the Bundesliga champions, that was until Werder recently entered the race for the 26-year-old.

And now, much to Wenger’s apparent surprise, the holding midfield player has rejected the chance to move to the capital next season and has officially joined the Bundesliga outfit instead after just two-and-a-half seasons at the Allianz Arena, during which time Gustavo scored six goals in 100 matches for the Bavarians, including six strikes in his 64 league contests.
