Arsenal are reportedly interested in Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas but before the Gunners faithful get too excited the Daily Mail claim that the North London outfit are readying a bid of just £8m for the World Cup Winner!

Clearly this is an insulting offer for a player of Casillas’s calibre, we are after all talking about a custodian considered one of the best in the business and one who is still just 32 years of age, which is relatively young in goal-keeping terms.

If this is accurate and this really is how much Wenger feels Casillas would be worth then Arsenal fans should be very worried.

There has been much talk of Arsene Wenger’s unwillingness to meet valuations in the current inflated transfer market but such an offer for the Real Madrid man is mindless, and clearly would constitute a complete waste of time.

It makes good sense for Wenger to target the addition of an experienced keeper but to make an offer of this value for a player with over 650 Real Madrid appearances to his name, five La Liga titles and two Champions League winners medals. This is not to mention the record haul of 149 Spanish national team caps, a World Cup and two European Championship triumphs achieved in that period.

To put the £8m valuation into perspective, Wenger paid £10.8m for Ivory Coast international Gervinho…
