Chelsea have set an asking price of £10million for striker Demba Ba, as they would prefer not to loan the Newcastle and Roma target, according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old has not managed to find his best form since joining Chelsea from Newcastle in January, and is seemingly not part of the club’s first-team plans under new manager Jose Mourinho.

Ba has only scored two Premier League goals for the Blues, and faces competition from Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku in the team’s starting lineup, with the possibility of further new signings still to come.

His old club Newcastle have expressed an interest in taking him back to St James’ Park on loan for the season, though Chelsea have said they will have to pay £3million to do so, with £10million enough to sign the Senegalese international again permanently.

The Magpies are targeting new additions upfront, having failed to adequately replace Ba since his departure, though they have been reluctant to spend vast amounts of money in recent years, and may turn to cheaper options.

Roma have also been linked with Ba since the sale of last season’s top scorer Pablo Osvaldo to Southampton and could target further attacking players after selling Erik Lamela to Tottenham.
