Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that he is confident that Andros Townsend will take his recent rapid rise in fortune in his stride as the young winger is fearless, the Daily Star reports.

Townsend has gone from bit part player to main man at White Heart Lane following Gareth Bale’s summer departure to Real Madrid and has made an impressive impact on the England national team set up.

He continued his good early form by netting his first league goal of the season in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, where he was also later named Man of the Match.

“Andros turned in another great performance, just like we’ve seen from him for England.

“He’s burst on the scene very quickly but he will keep his feet on the ground. He has to cope with the attention he gets but he’s very grounded and down to earth.

“I don’t foresee any problems. His confidence was high before he went away with England. He’s fearless and wants to grab the opportunity
and he is doing that.

“He’s been excellent and has shown his drive and determination.

“It’s early days for people to be comparing him with Gareth Bale because Gareth’s reputation became immense in the last season.

“I am a little surprised byhow quickly it is all happening for Andros but it is down to his ability.”
