Arsenal and Liverpool could go head to head for the signing of in-form Olympiacos striker Kostas Mitroglou this January, according to the Daily Star.

The prolific Greek international has been a revelation this season, scoring 14 goals in 14 games so far for his side, and catching the eye of several of Europe’s top clubs.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old, who could be an ideal replacement for their own want-away star Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international is likely to be made available on the cheap this January as Dortmund hope to prevent him joining their rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer next summer, and he is also interesting Premier League clubs.

Mitroglou could also be available for just £7m, and will certainly continue to attract big interest if he continues this fine form, with the striker already scoring three hat tricks this term.

Arsenal are short of strikers at the moment with just Olivier Giroud upfront, while Liverpool are also on the lookout for additions in that position as they face the possible departure of star player Luis Suarez to Real Madrid when the transfer window re-opens.
