Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay is believed to be taking a closer look at Roma midfielder Michael Bradley as he weighs up whether or not to make a move for the USA international in January, ClubCall reports.

Reports suggest that the Premier League new boys had a £5m approach for him knocked back in the summer as he was not a part of the clearance list in the Italian capital, though the arrival of Kevin Strootman from PSV Eindhoven momentarily cast his future into doubt.

Bradley is still highly regarded in Rome despite only making three appearances this season, but despite having an impressive debut season with the Giallorossi last term he could be tempted to make the move back to the UK in order to stay in Jurgen Klinsamann’s mind for the World Cup next summer.

Il Giocatore, as he is affectionately known in Italy, has played in the Premier League before, having spent a short loan spell with Aston Villa during Gerard Houllier’s time in charge of the side in 2010. However, he made only three appearances for the club and Alex McLeish declined the opportunity to turn his loan deal into a permanent fixture.
